Vote Yes for Fair Tax is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy is designed to tell you about the type of information we collect when you visit or enter information at yesforfairtax.org (“our website”) and to explain the manner in which we collect, store, maintain and protect that information.

Information we collect:

When you visit our website you may provide us with three types of information: personal information you voluntarily disclose through website features, online forms,  aggregate or statistical use information collected as you browse our website, and information you voluntarily provide whenever communicating electronically with us.

We and our service providers may also obtain information about you from other sources or third parties and combine that with information we collect about you on our Site.

Personal Information

We offer a number of features through our website such as endorsement and pledge forms, registration forms, donation forms, and contact forms. Whenever you choose to use these features, you may disclose “personal information” including your name, e-mail address, mailing address, telephone number, and other identifying information or preferences. In order to advance our advocacy goals, we collect and store this personal information on an individual basis.

We do not collect any credit card information through our website. Credit card payments are processed externally through a third-party vendor which ensures the security and confidentiality of your financial information.

Website Use Information

Our website uses standard technology to read and write “cookies” and to generate web server logs. These technologies collect information about your use of our website. This information may include the date and time of visits, your internet protocol address, the pages you view on our site, time you spent at our website, information about your web browser and operating system, and location of the website visited just before our website. None of this information is directly associated with any personal information you provide to us, and we make no attempt to relate such information to your personal information.

How We Use Information

We use personal information and information obtained by electronic communication for our own organizational activities and our interactions with you, including but not limited to advancing our advocacy efforts.

In order to advance these goals and activities, information you provide may be entered into a supporter or voter information database, shared with partners, organizations or other entities with our shared goals, and with service providers, vendors, and consultants. We will use your e-mail address or other contact information to communicate with you about the efforts to pass a Fair Tax constitutional amendment in Illinois, including but not limited to sending you information to keep you informed about various issues, events, activities, and volunteer opportunities, and provide news and information we think will be of interest to you and to communicate with you about your participation in our campaign. You may unsubscribe from these communications at any time.

We may contact you to solicit volunteers, donations and support for Vote Yes for Fair Tax and for other candidates, issues and organizations that we support and to connect you with other volunteers;

When you send e-mail or other communications to us we may retain those communications in order to process your inquiries, respond to your requests, advance our advocacy goals, and improve our services.

We use both your personally identifying information and certain non-personally identifying information (such as anonymous usage data, IP addresses, browser type, clickstream data, etc.) to improve the quality of your user experience and the design of the Website, and to create new features, functionality and services by storing, tracking and analyzing user behavior, preferences, trends and actions.

We may also contact you if federal or state law requires us to request additional information from you and may use information to prevent, identify, and investigate inappropriate or illegal activities and to protect the rights and property of Vote Yes for Fair Tax.

We may use the aggregate or statistical website use information for security and maintenance purposes to improve our website and to better serve our visitors.

How We Protect Information

We take security measures to protect against unauthorized access to or unauthorized alteration, disclosure or destruction of data. These measures include security measures to guard against unauthorized access to systems where we store personal data.

It is important for you to protect against unauthorized access to your password and to your computer.  Be sure to sign off when finished using a shared computer.  If you send us an e-mail you should know that e-mail is not necessarily secure against interception. If your communication includes sensitive information and you prefer not to use one of our online contact forms, contact us by mail or telephone rather than by e-mail.

Sharing Information with Outside Parties

We may share information about you as follows:

  • With partners, vendors or service providers, volunteers, and consultants who need access to this information to carry out work on the behalf of Vote Yes for Fair Tax;
  • With partners, organizations, groups or causes that we believe have similar viewpoints, principles or objectives or share similar goals;
  • To report required information to the Illinois State Board of Elections or other regulatory body;
  • If we believe your actions are inconsistent with our policies, or to protect the rights, property, and safety of Vote Yes for Fair Tax, its partners, volunteers, constituents, or others;
  • As otherwise described in this Privacy Policy

We may also share aggregated or de-identified information that cannot reasonably be used by those third parties to identify you.

Required Disclosure of Personal Information

We may disclose information when legally compelled to do so; when we, in good faith, believe that the law requires it; or for the protection of our legal rights.

Revising This Agreement

This Privacy Policy was last updated in February 2020. Our website, the Internet and the law are all constantly changing and, as a result, we may revise this Privacy Policy in order to respond to those changes. We will post the revised Privacy Policy on our website.
